What is a good gift idea for my daughter for 11th birthday?

I would like to admit I only met her recently, I cannot visit this year and the ipod is too expensive for me, it is what I want to get for her for christmas. We’re just getting to know each other online for now through email and chat. My friends say a card and twenty dollars is good, but I’m not feeling it’s thoughtful enough. Money is tight and I hate it. She does own a PS2 and doesn’t have Tomb Raider, Legend, if I send a card/cash, I was thinking TR should go also. I might be over thinking this, but it is her first birthday gift from me. If things were different, I’d travel, take my camera, go shopping with her, let her know she is loved and thought of.

A card and money or gift card is technically fine, but isn’t really sending the message “you’re special to me.” You could dress it up – put the cash or gift card in a small gift box with colorful tissue paper, some candy, lip gloss, funny socks, etc. Or you could choose something that she is interested in, like a video game.
You could also choose something more personal, such as a locket with your picture in it or a cute charm bracelet. Sometimes you can get them engraved at the mall with something like “To my beautiful daughter. Love, Daddy”
