California: what is max gift card value can be redeemed for cash?

From the research I have done it says $10 or less and you can redeem it for cash in CA. But I just now called different retailers that I have gift cards for and some said $10 and most said $5… Isn’t it LAW that they have to cash out any gift card $10 or less so it should be same amount for all retailers?

The law will always supersede corporate policy, if it’s a gift card branded for a store. So if you have a $10 Best Buy gift card, under CA law, they are required to give you cash back. But, if you have a $10 Visa gift card, you are not entitled to any cash back.
